The Belfry Theatre in Noblesville opens the fourth show of the 2016-2017 season on March 24 with the comedy The Foreigner by Larry Shue.

The story revolves around Charlie Baker - a painfully shy Englishman who is brought to a lakeside retreat in rural Georgia by his friend for some relaxation. Charlie is desperately afraid of personal interaction, so his friend "fixes it" so that he won't have to speak to anyone by telling the lodge owner that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and doesn't speak a word of English.

Charlie overhears more than he should and is inadvertently drawn into the unfolding story of the people living in the lodge's small town. Audiences will laugh along with Charlie and the others and cheer him on in his stand against local racist bullies.

Active in local community theatre for over ten years, Dana Lesh makes her directorial debut at The Belfry with The Foreigner.

"The first appeal for me was The Foreigner's hysterical humor because I so love making an audience laugh - even roar with laughter, at times. It's a testament to how well this play was written by the late, great Larry Shue that I have watched it night after night in rehearsal and still laugh so loudly that I can become a distraction to the actors. I also love the show's themes, the characters, and where the play leads them - and us," Lesh said.

The Foreigner runs March 24 through April 9 at The Belfry, 10690 Greenfield Ave.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under and are available online at www.TheBelfryTheatre.com. Please note that the show is rated PG-13 as some thematic elements and language might not be suitable for younger children.
