The Hamilton County Artists' Association awarded three Fine Arts Scholarships to three young artists planning to pursue careers in the arts.
Nicole Weldy from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, IN was awarded the HCAA 2017 Jim Sparks Memorial Scholarship. She received $700.
Jieun Yu from Carmel High School was awarded a HCAA 2017 Birdie Fine Arts Scholarship for $1,000.
Hallie Kane from Westfield High School was awarded a HCAA 2017 Birdie Fine Arts Scholarship also for $1,000.
Each year, the association awards two HCAA Birdie Fine Arts Scholarships, thanks to generous donation by Ken Bloomhorst in honor of his late wife, Roberta "Birdie" Bloomhorst. This year HCAA was able to award a third scholarship in memory of the late Jim Sparks, who was a lifelong lover of art, an art teacher, and one of our Supporting Members.
Memorial donations made in Jim's name provided the funds for the scholarship, and HCAA is truly honored to partner with Jim's family in providing the HCAA 2017 Jim Sparks Memorial Scholarship.
Graduating Hamilton County High School seniors competed for scholarships by submitting samples of their artwork to the organization. The students' artwork was displayed anonymously at the March HCAA Membership Meeting and Juried Artists determined the winners by vote.
All of the artwork submitted to the scholarship competition is on exhibit in The Birdie Gallery through March 24.
The Birdie Gallery, 195 S. 5th St., is open noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
