Sheridan, Westfield and Carmel have special elections scheduled for May 2, involving their respective school corporations.
The Hamilton County Elections Office has established a schedule for the election, including April 10 as the first day for absentee voting.
The questions before voters involve raising funds for the three school corporations.
For Sheridan, voters will be asked:
"For the seven (7) calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall Sheridan Community Schools impose a property tax rate that does not exceed twenty-five cents ($0.25) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the school corporation for the purpose of funding and maintaining teaching staff, classroom sizes, and academic related programs?"
Westfield voters will be asked:
"Shall Westfield Washington Schools issue bonds or enter into a lease to finance the 2017 Capacity, Safety, Efficiency, Renovation and Technology Project which includes the renovation of and improvements to Westfield Elementary Schools, Intermediate School, Middle School and High School, which is estimated to cost not more than $90,000,000 and is estimated to increase the property tax rate for debt service by a maximum of $0.3079 per $100 of assessed valuation?
And in Carmel, voters will consider:
"For the seven (7) calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall Carmel Clay Schools impose a property tax rate that does not exceed nineteen cents ($0.19) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the school corporation for the purpose of funding academic and support programs, teaching positions, and other educational needs of the school corporation?"
Absentee voting begins 8 a.m. Monday at the Hamilton County Government and Judicial Center, 1 Hamilton Square,
Hours for absentee voting are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through April 13 and April 17-21, 24-28 and 8 a.m. to noon May 1.
Special election day is May 2 in the Townships of Clay, Washington and Adams only. Polls will be open in your regular voting
location unless you receive a change of voting location notice in the mail.
