CARMEL - Pedego Carmel's Grand Opening Celebration on April 29 will feature VIPs, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments and plenty of fun. The public is invited to attend. It is the 94th Pedego store worldwide.

"My first experience with a Pedego was pure joy," said Josh Freedman, store co-owner. "I didn't know how comfortable riding a bike could be. I was all smiles!"

The store's mission is to introduce Carmel to the fun of electric biking and also the value Pedego bikes have as alternative transportation.

Pedego Carmel's Grand Opening Celebration will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. featuring Mayor James Brainard and City Councilman Bruce Kimball. The City of Carmel is working to become a more bike-friendly region, and this event is an important step in that direction.

After the ceremony, the party will continue with raffles, activities and refreshments until 5 p.m. Those in attendance may take store tours, free test rides, prizes and a free group ride around town on Pedego electric bikes on a first come, first served basis. Riders must be at least 16 to ride an electric bike.

"We want to share the joy of riding Pedego Electric Bikes with Carmel ... and to take the 'car' out of Carmel by getting more people on bikes," said Janet Sharp-Freedman, co-owner.

Located on the Monon Trail, Pedego Carmel offers one of the country's best bike trails. Monon Trail is a 20-mile bike path connecting Downtown Indianapolis to Westfield. Described on TrailLink as "a colossus in the world of Midwest rail trails," this scenic trail is designed with an astonishing practicality as an urban transportation corridor.

Pedego Carmel offers sales, rentals and tours on Pedego electric bikes.

For those who want a head start on the celebration, Pedego Carmel is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pedego Carmel will also be part of the Festival on Earth Day at Historic Military Park, 601 W. New York St., Indianapolis, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
