A 64-year-old Indianapolis man was killed when he was thrown from his motorcycle after colliding with another vehicle. The accident occurred just after 8 p.m. Sunday.
Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies report the accident happened on Ind. 38 at Moontown Road.
Hamilton County 911 received a call around 8:20 a.m. reporting a car-motorcycle accident. When deputies arrived they found Kenneth Fitzgerald bleeding severely. No helmet was located at the scene.
Intial reports indicate a black 2009 Dodge Charger, driven by Gary B. Mendenhall, 51 of Kokomo, was northbound on Moontown Road preparing to turn left onto Ind. 38. A black 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Fitzgerald, was traveling southeast on Ind. 38 and collided with the Charger as it pulled into the intersection.
Fitzgerald was thrown from the bike by the impact and sustained multiple injuries, including head injuries. Deputies arriving at the scene were assisted by bystanders in administering CPR to Fitzgerald until medical personnel arrived. He was taken by ambulance to Riverview Health where he died a short time later.
Mendenhall was checked by medics at the scene of the crash. A passenger in the Charger was transported to Riverview Health for complaints of pain and later released.
Due to the fatality, the Hamilton County Crash Investigation Team responded to the incident for further investigation.
