Noblesville Township Trustee Tom Kenley and administrative assistant Theresa Caldwell (second from right) and Tri Kappa Red Stocking Fund coordinators Anita Beck (second from left) and Pam Lehman (right) are seeking donations from the community.
The 12th annual Red Stocking Fund campaign begins this week, just as the last of the money raised in 2016 has been used by the Noblesville Township Trustees Office.
In 2016, just more than $15,000 was raised, for the third consecutive year, to be used throughout this year for the students of the Noblesville community who are less fortunate.
To date, more than $133,000 has been raised to support this community fundraiser.
Beta Epsilon Chapter of Tri Kappa sorority and The Times newspaper have again joined forces to promote this Red Stocking Fund. These monies ensure the children of Noblesville have shoes, clothing, school supplies, and shelter, as well as medicines and other necessities as deemed necessary.
In 2017, more than 200 students and their families were assisted.
Tri Kappa is pleased to provide a source of funds for Noblesville Schools to use at their discretion in accordance with the Noblesville Township Trustee.
The Red Stocking Fund was started in 2006 by a Tri Kappa member who had moved to Noblesville from Peoria, Ill. She was familiar with this program in Peoria and recommended the Noblesville chapter do a similar fundraiser for the students in Noblesville. As an employee of Noblesville Schools, she witnessed the needs of young children on a daily basis.
Noblesville's Pam Lehman, the fundraiser's chairperson, said, "This gives every school a source to turn to if a need is apparent. One hundred percent of the donations are put into a fund, and the Noblesville Township Trustee's Office distributes these funds throughout the year to the school children of Noblesville."
The Times will once again partner with Tri Kappa in this campaign by providing donation forms each week in the newspaper asking for donations. Each donation will give the donor an opportunity to submit a greeting in the newspaper to wish someone a Merry Christmas, honor a loved one or celebrate family.
The amount donated is not published, and any amount is appreciated. A donation form can be found in today's edition of The Times, giving everyone a chance to become involved with this
"We couldn't do this without The Times' assistance and the cooperation of the Noblesville Township Trustees Office," Lehman said. "I think it is a special way for people to help their community... and it is fun for people to see their names in the newspaper."
Donations will be collected through Christmas. Checks may be mailed to Noblesville Red Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 162, Noblesville, IN 46061. With any donation, please make sure to include the message/greeting you would like printed in the newspaper.
