CICERO - Martyn Furnish, Immediate Past President of the Cicero Kiwanis Club, has been named as Lt. Governor of the Sycamore South Division of Kiwanis International.
The role gives Furnish the opportunity to kick up his game for this worthwhile organization, more than century strong.
Furnish credits the Treasurer of the Indiana District and a former Lt Governor of the Sycamore South Division, David Cox, together with long time member and "club opener," Pete Tinsley for their suggesting to incoming Governor Steve Ingram, that Furnish might be a good candidate for the post. Furnish, a 10-year Kiwanis veteran and member of both Cicero and Westfield Clubs, was a perfect fit for the role.
Furnish has served as an active member and in leadership roles in two local clubs - Cicero and Westfield. Currently, he is the immediate past president of the Cicero Kiwanis Club. One of the longest serving clubs in Northern Hamilton County, the club was voted District Club of the Year in 2012 by Indiana District of Kiwanis and has earned a respected reputation for its involvement and contributions it's 40-year history.
"I have found clubs in our division to be active and composed of extraordinary members," said Martyn Furnish, who officially steps into his new Kiwanis role in October. "While we have seen U.S. Kiwanis membership fall to disappointingly low levels, the Sycamore South Division has added three new clubs (Westfield, Zionsville, and Carmel) in the last 18 months while losing only the club at Fishers Station. However, we are not resting. We see an opportunity to open a new Fishers Club, maybe another in Carmel, and perhaps, even special location clubs in some of the very active '55 plus' senior living communities that abound in our area."
More clubs and more members mean more outreach, community action, and more fundraising to help support youth related developments, including those that meet the key objectives of healthy children, educated children, leadership development, and priority children's issues.
In addition to overseeing clubs in the division, membership development and outreach, other Lt. Governor duties include liaising with clubs in terms of keeping them informed on the District activities, encouraging service projects, organizing any Governor visits, and being a servant leader available to help with fund-raising questions, sharing best practices, encouraging and support with club issues of any sort and more.
The Sycamore South Division is one of 24 within the District of Indiana. The Sycamore South Division of Indiana is currently comprised of nine clubs (Cicero, Carmel, Noblesville Noon, Noblesville Sunrisers, Geist, Carmel Golden K, Westfield, Sheridan and Zionsville). All clubs are located within Hamilton County except Zionsville.
