Hamilton Heights FFA competes at State Livestock Skillathon
ARCADIA - Eleven students from Hamilton Heights FFA Chapter competed in the State Livestock Skillathon Judging Contest on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Contest was hosted by the Purdue 4-H Extension at the Purdue ASREC.

The Hamilton Heights 4-H Senior Team placed 2nd and is advancing to the National Livestock Skillathon Judging Contest in January at the National Western Livestock Show in Denver.

Atlanta New Earth Festival set for Sept. 23-24
ATLANTA - The 44th annual New Earth Festival is scheduled for Sept. 23-24 at Atlanta.

More than 600 vendor booths of unique arts, crafts, collectibles, and food of all kind will be available.

Free entertainment this year include The Flying Toasters, Jeremy Morris, and The Singing Contractors for Sunday morning services.

Career fair offers options
SHERIDAN - The Sheridan Youth Assistance Program will play host to its second annual Student Career Exploration Fair 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 2, in the Sheridan High School Gymnasium.

Students in grades 8 through 12 from Sheridan, Hamilton Heights, Tipton, and Clinton Central are invited to attend the hands-on, interactive career fair which will highlight skilled trades in advanced manufacturing, the hospitality industry, agriculture, human services, health care, transportation, construction, and information technology.

County schools receive Gold Stars
Guerin Catholic High School, Noblesville, and Hamilton Heights Middle School, Arcadia, have been named Gold Star Schools for 2017 by the Indiana Department of Education.

Guerin is a renewal Gold Star School, and HHMS is a first-time recipient.

Westfield Safety Festival this weekend
WESTFIELD - Residents in Westfield will have a chance to learn about valuable safety practices this weekend when the Westfield Fire Department hosts the 2017 Westfield Safety Festival.

The event is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Village Park Plaza. There is no cost for admission.

Judges celebrate Constitution Day by visiting students across the state
More than 4,000 students across the state will celebrate Constitution Day with judges and Supreme Court staff attorneys visiting their classrooms, Sept. 17.

Indiana courts are recognizing the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, Sept. 17, 1787, with a program that brings judges into schools.

CARMEL - The Carmel American Legion Riders and American Legion Post 155 have scheduled Cobe's Kickin' Cancer Poker Run Sept. 9. The event is open to all riders and is a fundraiser for a local child fighting cancer.

White's historic first day to be celebrated
ARCADIA - On Aug. 31, 1987, Ryan White entered Hamilton Heights High School with his fellow students.

As a person with AIDS, White faced many challenges at a time when much about the disease was unknown.

To celebrate White's life and legacy, community leaders will be reflecting on that historic day. State Rep. Tony Cook, Hamilton Heights High School principal at that time, will discuss White's first day of school at the event.
