Learn about grain-bin safety, urban wildlife
There is something for everyone at the 2016 Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District annual meeting and winter workshop.

The public is invited to the half-day program, which is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the Hamilton County 4-H Exhibition Center, 2003 E. Pleasant St., Noblesville.

Participants can meet with exhibitors between educational sessions and partake in a meal and learn about grain-bin entrapment and rescue, self-propelled sprayers, urban wildlife, and cover crops for gardens, said Mark McCauley, the district's resource conservationist.

House supports State Rep. Cook's proposed 'workplace' Spanish bill
The House of Representatives voted 95-1 in support of State Rep. Tony Cook's (R-Cicero) bill to provide high school students classes in newly created workplace functional Spanish, emphasizing common Spanish vocabulary and acceptable grammar usage. Upon successful completion of the classes, students would qualify for credit and special language notations on their transcripts.

Hamilton Superior Court Judge Steve Nation is among 30 candidates to apply for an upcoming Indiana Supreme Court vacancy of Justice Brent E. Dickson, who retires on April 29.

Nation said he's "extremely honored" to even be considered for the position.

New experience in the treetops
What child doesn't love a treehouse? Being outdoors? And making his or her own discoveries?

A four-story treehouse that is under construction at Conner Prairie Interactive History Park in Fishers has been unveiled as the newest outdoor experience to open in 2016 for families of all ages.

The 10,000-square-foot treehouse, standing 40-feet tall, that would be every child's dream, will open July 1, museum officials announced Wednesday at Conner Prairie's annual meeting.
