Cicero American Legion and VFW to dedicate Veterans' Memorial Wall
CICERO - The American Legion, Department of Indiana James Evans Post 341 in Cicero, has scheduled a ribbon-cutting, dedication ceremony 11 a.m. Saturday for its newly constructed Veterans Memorial Wall at the entrance of Red Bridge Park in Cicero.

Oelschlager Named Heights' Teacher of the Year
ARCADIA - Julie Oelschlager has been selected as its 2017 Teacher of the Year for the Hamilton Heights School Corporation.

Oelschlager will represent Hamilton Heights at the state Teacher of the Year competition in Indianapolis this fall.

Photography tips subject of library meeting
CICERO - On July 11, local photographer Sally Wolf shares tips and tricks of the trade at the next Friends of the Library's Tuesdays with Friends event.

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Hamilton North Public Library in Cicero. Photography enthusiasts, newbies and even the digitally challenged are invited to learn more about taking better photographs.

MAMA's Cupboard Project Completed
SHERIDAN - Last fall the Sheridan Rotary Club partnered up with the Carmel Rotary Club to obtain a matching Rotary District 6560 grant to put a new roof on the MAMA's Cupboard Food Pantry facility in uptown Sheridan.

The clubs are proud to announce that the project is complete and MAMA's Cupboard has a brand new roof.

HHSC grant from Duke Energy to fund Summer Jumpstart Program
ARCADIA - Hamilton Heights School Corporation has received a $25,000 grant from Duke Energy to help fund a new program set to begin in July.

The program, entitled HHSC Summer Jumpstart, has been designed for Heights most "at-risk" students who recently completed Kindergarten, first and second grades. A maximum of 60 students can participate in this interactive remedial reading program that will be conducted for four-and-a-half hours for 10 days prior to the start of the school year.

KNC Bright Light 612 won grand champion steer at the 2017 Indiana Angus Association Junior Preview Show, June 11 in Lebanon. Dylan Young, Cicero, owns the April 2016 son of S A V Bright Lights 3400. Ryan Rash, Crockett, Texas, evaluated the 89 entries.

Ten Sheridan High School Seniors Receive Scholarships
SHERIDAN - The Sheridan Community School Scholarship Foundation Fund recently awarded 10 Sheridan High School seniors scholarships totaling $28,000 for the 2017-2018 school year.

Just two years prior, the committee researched ways to ensure the scholarship fund would continue its original mission for generations to come - to provide scholarships to graduates from Sheridan High Schoo

Braveheart Foundation awards grant to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry
INDIANAPOLIS - The Brave Heart Foundation has awarded the Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry's "Meat" the Need program a grant in the amount of $5,000.00.

These funds will be used to assist Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry in paying processing fees for donated large game and livestock.

FISHERS - The Hoosier Heritage Railroad interest group will publicly announce its proposal to operate expanded train service on the historic Nickel Plate railroad corridor. Heights resource officer nominated for award
ARCADIA - Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Jon Tindal has been nominated for the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Regional Exceptional Service Award.

Tindal, who has served as School Resource Officer (SRO) at Hamilton Heights Middle School since 2014, has made a positive and far-reaching impact on the students and faculty of the school, according to those in contact with him on a daily basis.

Heights educators to celebrate life of Ryan White
ARCADIA - Former Hamilton Heights' student Ryan White left a legacy not only on the local school district but on the country as well. Hamilton Heights Middle School 7th and 8th grade teachers are honoring that legacy by co-teaching a week-long unit that takes students on the journey through White's life using newspaper articles, videos, and culminating with a presentation by Rep. Tony Cook's a 9 a.m. on Friday, May 5.

School referendums pass
All three Hamilton School referendums were passed in the special election Tuesday. Sheridan, Westfield, and Carmel all had referendums at stake.

Sheridan's referendum passed with 73 percent of the total 726 voters saying yes.

Hamilton Heights Elementary School third-grade teachers took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with a slight twist. Instead of a bucket of ice and water, they would be the human targets for ice water-filled balloons.
