Assisted living community achieves deficiency-free survey
The Times

WESTFIELD - Sanders Glen Assisted Living in Westfield, has achieved a deficiency-free annual survey for September, as administered by the Indiana State Department of Health.

"I'm so grateful to have such an amazing staff. I feel the longevity we have with our current team members plays a key role in the quality of care we provide on a day-to-day basis," said Sue Hamaker, Sanders Glen Assisted Living executive director.

It is unusual for an assisted living community to achieve a deficiency-free survey, meaning that all services provided at the center meet and/or exceed all state and federal standards. A deficiency-free survey in Indiana's rigorous annual examination is one of the top indications of excellence for an assisted living community.

Assisted living communities are inspected annually to evaluate services and renew state licensure. Unannounced, surveyors come in to interview, observe, and check records for several days. Surveyors determine compliance with regulations governing areas such as quality of care, residents' rights, confidentiality and quality of service. If the many applicable regulations are met, the assisted living center is awarded a "deficiency-free" survey.
