Sandhill Crane motor coach tour Nov. 18
The Times

CARMEL - Nature enthusiasts are invited to join Indiana Audubon Society for a special motor coach tour to view the mass migration of sandhill cranes 1 p.m. Nov. 18, leaving from the Cool Creek Nature Center in Carmel.

The tour will take participants to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area, where upwards of 20,000 sandhill cranes converge each fall. After sunset, the tour will return to Cool Creek around 8 p.m.

At Jasper Pulaski, participants will be able to witness the evening gathering of cranes from atop special viewing platforms. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be provided to assist with the observations.

Beginning about one hour before sunset, flocks of cranes will glide in from all directions. Outdoor Indiana magazine rated the fall spectacle among the top 20 things every Hoosier should witness before they die.

This trip is well suited for beginning and experienced birders, general nature enthusiasts, and photographers.

Space is limited, and advance registration is required. Trip costs includes a special presentation, light refreshments, binocular and optics use at the site, coach bus travel to and from Jasper-Pulaski, and on-site guiding by IAS staff. Registration for the workshop is $48, with discounts available to Indiana Audubon Society members.

Registration is in the events page at www.indianaaudubon.org/events.

For more information about the workshop, call Brad Bumgardner at (219) 928-6905. Cool Creek Park is located at 2000 E 151st Street in Carmel. To learn more about the Indiana Audubon Society and to search for programs near you, visit them on the web at www.indianaaudubon.org.
