The voice was a whisper and I felt a soft tap on my shoulder. It was 6:30 a.m. and I had waited all year long to get the extra hour of sleep on the night that we "fall back".
For two year old Aiden it was 7:30 and it was time to get up. I will tell you that there is no "snooze" button on a two year old.
So as I opened my eyes, he pointed to the kitchen. "Gammaw kitchen" he said. I took his finger and he pointed with his other one. When I grabbed that one he wiggled out of my grasp and pointed with both.
Then he reached over and kissed me on the cheek and Gammaw's heart melted.
I made my way to the kitchen poured him a glass of milk and made him breakfast. I made myself a strong cup of coffee and turned on the cartoons.
We giggled and sang and danced. There is something about a little child and when they are about two years old they are learning to talk and express themselves. They are fascinated with the world.
There is something about a grandchild and how they love you. It's just hard to explain but from the moment you first hold them in your arms, you are under the influence of this little person.
Aiden and his four cousins make everything right with the world. When I am with them nothing else matters.
About that extra hour of sleep? Well it could never compare to the 60 minutes of extra hugs and giggles that I got from a little guy who loves his Gammaw Janet.
Funny thing is that the next morning his Mommy woke him up to go to the babysitter and he said, "Just ten more minutes Mommy."
Yep, he's growing up.
In just a few weeks his sister will be here and my heart will grow a bit more.
When it comes to grandkids there is never enough time but there will always be enough love.
