I want to thank you for stopping me on the street or in the grocery store or at community events, telling me that you enjoy reading my columns in The Times. Or that you have a story idea for The Times. Or that you want to invite The Times to your event or club meeting or get-together.
For many of you, The Times is your first read in the morning, five days a week. But for the next two weeks, you'll have to read The Times without me.
I'm taking a much-needed vacation. Not that I don't enjoy writing for The Times' five publication days per week, all year long. But I do like a vacation every now and then.
Last week and this week, Noblesville students are on a two-week spring break.
So far, we've had the opportunity to go horseback riding at Strawtown Koteewi Park in Noblesville, see up close the new rare English Longhorn calf at Conner Prairie in Fishers and watch my daughter ooh and aah over horses and cowgirl gear at the Hoosier Horse Fair & Expo. We've twice visited the Children's Museum and both times snagged a place in the "Circus - Starring You!" clown act under the big top. The Indianapolis museum was just voted best children's museum in the nation by USA Today's Readers Choice 2017 poll (on another note, watch for The Times' Readers' Choice results, which will be published in April).
While we've had a lot of fun on spring break, I still had column deadlines to meet.
But for the next two weeks, I have no deadlines, except for my own life.
And my daughter still has a lot of things to get accomplished over spring break, on her list: to go horseback riding again, to go indoor rock climbing, to go see a movie, to go bowling and play outside. The list goes on.
My list is a little less fun. Like spring cleaning and purging and organizing.
Since I started working at The Times in May 2014, I've been so busy attending events and writing stories and columns and taking photos, that I've had little extra time for my house.
To those of you who I've interviewed and not yet written columns or stories about you, I apologize. I still plan to write your stories and those columns.
If you need to reach The Times while I'm gone, email your items to firstname.lastname@example.org.
And thank you so much for reading The Times.
