Landon Denison, 12, Noblesville, gets help choosing a prize during Hamilton East Public Library's Summer Reading Program from Children's Department paraprofessional Patricia Gioe.
It's hard to believe it's already the last week of July. It means that classes start on Tuesday for Noblesville Schools. It means it's time to stop sleeping in.
And it's also time for the end of Hamilton East Public Library's annual Summer Reading Program, and time for the library's celebration for folks who read books over the summer.
We know, it's difficult to make time for reading when you're having so much fun at Noblesville School summer day camps, swimming at Forest Park Aquatic Center, riding bicycles on the local trails, playing outdoors at the parks and vacationing in near and faraway places.
But we still made time to read some Harry Potter books and books about horses and ghosts. Reading has been more fun each summer when participating in the library's program, this year themed "Build A Better World." The program is for kids and adults who read to win books, prizes, gift certificates and more. So far, we've earned a prize bag, food coupons, bookmarks and fun stuff.
Families who are still reading or are just now picking up their books can still sign up for the library's reading program, through July 31. However, keep in mind, Monday is also the deadline to input all of your summer reading.
At the end of program, there is always a party or two to celebrate. The Summer Reading Finale at the Noblesville Library is on Monday, with a "Build a Better World Storytime," for ages 2-4, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; and a "Ronald McDonald Summer Reading Show," for all ages, from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.; and a "Lego Batman Movie Afternoon," for all ages, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Finale at the Fishers Library is also on Monday, with "Mr. Dan the Music Man," for all ages, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and "Fishers Matinee Madness," for all ages, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The library, which gave away some cool stuff at Friday's Back to School Bash on the Square, is collecting new school supplies for neighbors in need. Supplies may be dropped of at the red wagon in the Fishers Library lobby, through Aug. 6. In Noblesville, supplies are being taken at the Noblesville Trustees Office.
Also, upcoming library events include "Learning about the Eclipse" on Thursday, with Steve Haines from the Indiana Astornomical Society for a presentation on the Great American Eclipse. The library encourages folks to join staff from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Nickel Plate Amphitheater in Fishers to watch the eclipse, with free eclipse glasses, viewing safety information and a chocolate moonpie. Folks can also catch the NASA coverage in the library's meeting rooms; midpoint of the eclipse is at 2:25 p.m.
There is a lot going on at the Hamilton East Public Library, including some upcoming remodeling, which will be shared in a future edition. Visit http://hepl.lib.in.us/
