GIRLS BASKETBALL: Trailblazers go out in style

BROWNSBURG - The University girls basketball team was up against one of the best in Friday's Sectional 58 semi-final. They faced No. 7 Indianapolis Tindley who average a whopping 85 points per game. According to MaxPreps, they have the second-highest points in the nation so far.

And the Trailblazers held them to 51. That's going out in style . . . with an extra salute at the end.

"Our defense was excellent and we really worked on it," Trailblazer head coach Justin Blanding said. "Tindley scores at a high rate but we knew if locked down we could stop them. The kids played their hearts out."

Last year, Tindley defeated University 102-42 and Blanding said they would never let that happen again.

"We were not and are not afraid of them and it showed tonight," he said. "They are a great team."

He added that they're will to win and compete has been their biggest improvement since the start of the season.

They started a freshman, two sophomore and a junior with only six upperclassmen on their roster. However, three of those six were crucial to the success of the team this year.

"Emma Caress, Honor Cosby, and Maggie Klemsz did a great job leading this team," Blanding said.

They finished the season 20-4.
