2/10/2017 GYMNASTICS: Millers flip over senior night foes
The Noblesville gymnastics team celebrated their seniors Wednesday with a win over Lafayette Jefferson and Harrison.
The Millers combined for a 95.05, just ahead of Lafayette Jeff's 89.65. Harrison posted only individuals scores at 63.05.
Senior Esma Taylor finished the night with a first place and a season-high score of 8.725 on the beam, helping her to a second place in all-around with a 32.775. Seniors Ronnie and Ellie VanBuskirk also completed all-around with Ronnie placing fourth and Ellie, seventh. Freshman Olivia Mangin rounded out the scores with a sixth.
Mangin led the team in the vault, scoring an 8.275 and placing fourth. Right behind her was Ellie VanBuskirk, who ended in sixth.
The Millers had four placements in both the bars and floor. Ronnie VanBuskirk used a 7.875 to clinch a second-place finish in the bars. Grace Kwiatkowski, Taylor and Maddie VanBuskirk finished in the top six as well. Taylor brought home a second-place in floor after her first-place beam. Ronnie and Ellie placed in the beam too while Ronnie tacked on her third placement in floor at fifth, tied with Lauren Murray. Mangin had another fourth-place in floor.
"Overall, I was very pleased with the team as we start to remain consistent in the mid-90's for our team score," Miller head coach Jody Ramey said. "As we prepare for Sectionals in just a couple weeks consistency is very key."
The team graduates six senior gymnasts and four managers after this season.
"It was certainly the largest group I have ever graduated in all 15 years of coaching," Ramey said. "We will miss all of the greatly but send our best wishes for everyone in the years to come."
Noblesville (8-9) heads to their final invite before sectionals on Saturday at Connersville at 11 a.m.
