Guerin Catholic's leading scorer Jack Hansen returned in style Friday.

Hansen had suffered a knee injury earlier in the week but after treatment and an all-clear to play, Hansen dropped in 31 points and brought down nine rebounds to lead Guerin past class 4A Franklin Central, 71-65.

A few other Golden Eagles helped spark the offense, in contrast to their previous two losses. Zach Munson and Matthew Godfrey added 13 of their own points - Munson with some key putbacks and Godfrey with some key 3-pointers.

"I thought everybody stepped up and did some good things," Golden Eagle head coach Pete Smith said.

The main difference from the last few games was the turnover count. Guerin finished with just seven turnovers (compared to 18 Monday), the majority of which were in the fourth after the Flashes put on their pressure.

"We took care of the ball a lot better, and they came with some pretty good pressure," Smith said. "We made a few bad decisions on shots but at least they weren't turnovers. A bad shot is better than a turnover late in the game because you have a chance to get a rebound on a bad shot."

Headed into the fourth quarter, Golden Eagle Kian Sills had a breakaway steal and layup followed by a buzzer '3' to give Guerin a 51-42 lead.

Guerin increased that to a 15-point lead at one point in the fourth quarter before the Flashes worked in a short rally to get it within six by the buzzer.

Hansen was fouled on a 3-pointer and gave the Golden Eagles a 13-point lead making all three freebees, two minutes into the fourth quarter. The momentum continued as Godfrey slipped past the Flash defense for an easy layup. Guerin led 61-46 with 4:55 to go.

Franklin Central inched closer as Flash Grant Pedigo drained three of his signature jump shots but Guerin fended off their press and Golden Eagles Zach Munson and Luke Godfrey came through with enough baskets to keep them out of reach.

Guerin moves to a 13-8 record and will be back in action at Pendleton Heights next Friday.
