INDIANAPOLIS - Westfield's Liam Jagow won his opening round match at the 79th Indiana High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championship Friday night.
Jagow, a senior, defeated Jack Michel, of Southridge, by major decision 9-1.
A major decision occurs when one wrestler has an 8 to 14 point lead over his opponent.
Jagow, 42-3 on the season, advances to today's quarterfinal round where he will face undefeated Andrew Davidson, 39-0, of Chesterton.
Noblesville's David Kitko scored the initial takedown in his 160 pound weight class match against Jimtown's Kenny Kerrn, at the 79th Indiana High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships, but that immediate success didn't last.
Kerrn, 46-1 coming into the match, defated Kitko by technical fall, 18-2.
A technical fall occurs when one wrestler gains a 15-point advantage over his opponent. The match is immediately stopped.
Kitko, a senior, finished the season with a 39-11 record.
Chesterton's Diego Lemley defeated Westfield's Justin Miller by major decision 15-6.
Miller finished his senior season with a 35-15 record.

Hamilton Southeastern senior Alec Jessop, 25-2, won his opening round match, defeating Stephen Nix, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger 6-5.
