Burman signs with Indiana University Southeast
The Times

ARCADIA - Kenna Burman, Hamilton Heights' senior, has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers in New Albany this fall. She is the daughter of Rob and Holly Burman.

IUS is a member of the River States Conference.

"From my very first visit to IUS, I knew this was going to be my home away from home for the next four years," Burman said. She is leaning toward a degree in either elementary education or travel and tourism management. "IUS seemed to be an overall perfect fit for me. The campus is just what I was looking for and the volleyball program is great. I am excited to play for Coach Eric Brian."

A four-year letterman, Burman has made valuable contributions as an outside hitter helping the Lady Huskies to the Mid-Indiana Conference (MIC) Championship in 2013. Burman earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention as a freshman; named to Hamilton County's All-Conference 2nd and All-County 2nd Teams; and Hamilton County's All-Conference and All-County 1st Teams her junior and senior years. In addition, she was invited to the Indiana North/South All-Star tryouts her junior and senior years.

"Ever since I was a little girl I knew that volleyball was my passion," Burman said. "My mom was a high school volleyball coach and taught me the fundamentals at an early age. She coached me when I started playing in a recreational league at about eight years old. From there, my love for the game really took off. I started playing club at 11 and have been playing year-round since then."

Burman credits her mother as being a great role model.

"She is the strongest person I know and has always pushed me to do my best on and off the court," Burman said. "I can never thank her enough for everything she has done for me."

"None of this would be possible without my family," Burman said.

She enjoys spending time with friends and family at her lake house in the summer. "From my parents hauling me to all of my tournaments and pushing me to be my best to my little sister and biggest fan Linley. Also, I am grateful to my extended family and friends for always coming out to support me at every home and away match. Last, a special thank you to all of my coaches throughout my volleyball career including my mom, Coach Collar, Conner and Ward for really pushing me every practice and match."

"Kenna is a good all round player with great volleyball knowledge," said Steve Ward, Hamilton Heights Girls Volleyball head coach. "She will be an asset to IU Southeast's program."

"We are very happy to have Kenna represent Hamilton Heights at the next level. She is a very polite young lady and a model student/athlete. We wish her well at Indiana University Southeast," said Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights athletic director.
