Heights head boys track and field coach Mike Hippensteel has his sights set on a top-four finish in the Hoosier Conference this spring.
"We lost a lot in the sprints, throws and hurdles from last year," Hippensteel said as the 2017 season approaches. "We will need some young guys to step up in those events this year to score big meet points."
Hippensteel noted a number of returning athletes who expect to have strong seasons.
Juniors Brandon McQuinn, the defending conference champion, and Isiah Kunzer will be strong in the pole vault. Seniors Dylan Young and Michael Tyner along with juniors Isiah Campbell and Tony Harden make up a 4x800-meter relay team that qualified for regionals last season. Senior Jesse Brown returns as a two-time regional qualifier in the long jump. Jacob Glover is a two-time regional qualifier in the high jump and 400-meter dash.
"Our strengths will be in pole vault, long jump and mid-distance events," Hippensteel said.
