Noblesville Boys Golf Season Preview:

Noblesville's head golf coach Gary Deakyne is excited about his team's prospects for the upcoming season. The Millers return four varsity golfers from the 2016 sectional champion team.

The team will be led by two returning seniors: Patrick Deakyne and Mitchell Compton. Patrick was a 2016 state finals individual qualifier, and Compton was a medalist in a number of matches last season.

The other two returning Miller golfers are sophomores Clay Merchant and Jacob Deakyne. Merchant was the individual sectional champion in 2016 as he shot a 1-under 71 at Purgatory last spring.

According to Coach Deakyne, a number of other players will compete for the varsity team's final spot including: Connor Mills, Nick Bragg, Jack Barnes, Michael Podzielinski, Kyle Claussen and Alec Clark.

The Millers will be looking to improve off a season in which they won their sectional and placed sixth in regionals.

Noblesville's first match will take place at Pendleton Heights on April 13 at 4:00 p.m.

Guerin Boys Golf Season Preview:

Guerin Catholic head golf coach Mark Mathews is looking to build off a 2016 season in which the Golden Eagles finished fifth in the Zionsville sectional tournament.

"The Guerin Catholic boys golf team looks strong again this year," Mathews said. "We have a deep team with a full eight-player varsity and eight-player junior varsity squad as well as a large developmental squad."

The team will begin its season on Mar. 30 against Cathedral in a match hosted by Maple Creek Golf Course in Indianapolis.

"Our team has a strong senior group of varsity players and a great group of underclassmen that when combined will be a very strong team," Mathews said.

Mathews' team will be led by five seniors: Matthew Godfrey, Cam Walsh, Luke Paige, Graham Keller and Matthew Hastings.
