The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagle softball squad started its season off with a 7-2 loss at home to Lawrence Central on Tuesday night.
Guerin stayed close with the Bears for most of the game, but Lawrence Central eventually pulled away scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Senior Sarah Miller pitched a complete game for Guerin striking out 10 batters and giving up seven hits in seven innings of work.
The Golden Eagles were only able to generate two runs from their seven hits on the night. Seven different players finished with one hit each: Miller, Julie Gallina, Madelyn Buckner, Kate Swift, Hanna Bills, Caitlin Collins and Olivia Nystrom.
The Bears were led by junior Brianna McMonagle who went 3-for-4, scored three runs and batted in two additional runs.
Guerin's next game will come at 5:30 p.m. Thursday night at Heritage Christian.
