The #2 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball team (4-1/0-0) split their final 2 games on Saturday in Tennessee. The Tigers started the day with a 5-4 come from behind victory over Tennesee AAA #3 Lebanon, Tenn., before dropping their final game on the trip 9-8 to Oakland, Tenn.
The Tigers found themselves down 4-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning of Game 1 before their bats came alive scoring 5 runs on 6 hits. With 1 out, Caleb Brenczewski doubled to start the rally. The next batter Matthew Wolff drove Brenczewski home for the Tigers first run.
One out later, the Tigers connected on 4 straight hits to score 4 runs with 2 outs. Trevor Newman laid down a bunt single, Luke Duermit followed with a 2-run double, Craig Yoho delivered his own RBI double, and Andy Bennett delivered the go ahead RBI single.
Griffin Rhoads (1-0) earned his first victory of the season pitching 2 spotless innings in relief. Taylor Soper picked up his 3rd save of the season.
Luke Albright earned a no decision in his first start of the season. Albright pitched 4 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 3.
In Game 2, the Tigers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning and extended their lead to 8-1 after the top of the 4th. The host Oakland Patriots responded with 8 unanswered runs to take the lead 9-8 going into the top of the 7th. The Tigers stranded the tying and go ahead runners on base when the game ended.
Offensively, Andy Bennett finished 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a run. Craig Yoho also finished 2-3 with a double and 2 runs. Kiel Brenczewski added a 2-run double, Ryan Metz provided an RBI double, and Justin Pope and Matthew Wolff both contributed RBI singles. Jack Roudebush delivered an RBI ground out.
Wolff (0-1) took the loss in relief on the mound. Starter Jon Vore earned a no decision allowing 1 run while striking out 6 in 3 innings of work.
The Tigers return home to open up Hoosier Crossroads Conference play with the Noblesville Millers 6 p.m. Thursday.
