Noblesville Clay Merchent won the driving portion of the National Drive, Chip and Putt Finals, Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta. Ga., just days before the start of the 2017 Masters. Merchent, a sophomore on the Millers' golf team and competed in the 14-15 year old age group, sent his first drive 304.7 yards, out distancing second-place finisher Andrew Scholz, Fairway, Kan., by more than 31 yards. He was seventh in chipping with a 22 feet 2 inch aggregate score. Merchent was ninth in putting with an aggregate score of 7 feet 10 inches. He finished tied for fifth overall in the competition. Noblesville's Conner McNeely was 10th overall in the 12-13 year old age group. McNeely was seventh in driving distance with a best drive of 228.4 yards. He was ninth in chipping, with a 36 feet 9 inch aggregate score, and 10th in putting with an aggregate of 9 feet 6 inches.
