BOYS GOLF: Kehl ties for medalist honors as Rocks open golf season
The Times

CARMEL - Westfield's Josh Kehl tied for medalist honors with Carmel's Kevin Stone, both carding 72, as the Shamrocks opened the 2017 golf season finishing second in a three-way meet at Carmel.

The Greyhounds, ranked second in the state, won the match with 301, Westfield scored 310 and fifth-ranked Hamilton Southeastern finished with 317.

Westfield's other scorers were Andrew Lewis, 74, Ethan Lutz, 80, Noah Shanteau, 84, Drake Biggs, 86 and Kevin Hitch 89.

"Senior Josh Kehl played a great round of golf capped off by a birdie on his last hole to tie for medalist," said Coach Josh Bryant. "Junior Andrew Lewis added a solid 74 to help lead the Shamrocks.

"There is a lot of room for improvement with this team and I think the boys saw that tonight. Although the course played long, it was scorable and Carmel showed that with their 301. I believe that this will motivate us as we prepare for our Saturday invite at Warsaw. It was great to see senior Josh Kehl get off to a good start. He has been playing so well in qualifying rounds and it carried over into the first match of the year," Bryant said.

Sophomore Nick Dentino shot 74 after bogeying three of his first four holes for Carmel. Sophomore Cole Harris fired 77, and freshman Clay Stirsman shot 78.

The Hounds will compete at Highland Country Club on Saturday and face sectional rival Zionsville for the first time this season.

Hamilton Southeasern was paced by Jake Hutmacher 76, Drew Alexander 78, Luke Jolly 79, and Will Kirchmer, Alex Bullington and Sam Smith all had 84.

The team takes on Brownsburg and Park Tudor on Thursday.
