ARCADIA - The Hamilton Heights girls softball team defeated Western 5-1 Wednesday, behind solid defense and timely hitting.

Jessica Kaurich led off the 4th inning with a hit, followed by Shelby Wills, Claire Schildmeier, and Adyson Baber getting on base with singles. Kylie Schakel scored Wills on a single and then Schildmeier scored on a walk by Mickey Stupp.

In the 6th, Stupp reached on a fielders choice, Bayleigh Runner walked and Ashton Runner singled to load the bases. Taylor Ewing then hit a shot into the outfield scoring all 3 runners.

"We had a much better all-around game tonight. Our defense did a much better job while our offense continued to produce runs," said Coach Landi Lockwood.

Baber surrendered only 1 run on four hits to pick up the win for Heights.

"Adyson Baber did a really good job on the mound only giving up 4 hits. Western is a well-coached team, for us to be able to turn around from the loss to them the night before and keep our focus and composure says alot about the resilience of our girls," Lockwood said.

Ewing had 2 hits with 3 RBI, Kaurich had 2 hits Schakel had a hit with an RBI

Ashton Runner, Wills, and Schildmeier each had a hit and scored a run. Baber had a hit, Stupp and Bayleigh Runner scored a run each

Heights plays at Fishers, 5:30 p.m. today.
