Tyler Owens pitched a gem on Thursday night.

The junior right hander threw a complete game shutout as the Noblesville Millers defeated the Westfield Shamrocks 6-0.

Owens only allowed five hits and struck out four in seven innings of work.

The Millers grabbed a one-run lead in the second inning and then added three more in the third. Noblesville punched in two more insurance runs in the fifth.

Travis Gillian led the Millers at the plate going 3-for-3 and scoring a run. Mark Goudy also had a solid night at the dish going 2-for-3. The team finished with nine hits and 3 RBIs total.

Four different pitchers took the mound for the Rocks. Nathan Robinson took the lion's share pitching three and a third innings, giving up seven hits and striking out two.

"Noblesville was better than us tonight," said Ryan Bunnell, Westfield coach. "I thought we had some pretty good at bats that didn't go our way, but defensively we kicked it a little and we mentally made too many mistakes."

The win brings the Millers back to .500 for the season (5-5). The loss leaves Westfield with a 2-4 record.

Thursday's matchup was the first of a three-game series between the two squads. The teams play again 6 p.m. tonight at Westfield, and then again 6 p.m. Saturday back in Noblesville.
