Fishers wins Mudsock series

FISHERS - The No. 2-ranked Fishers baseball team (10-2/5-1) received the Mudsock Trophy by winning the decisive Game 3 over the No. 3 Hamilton Southeastern Royals.

The Tigers scored first in the 3rd inning with two 2-out hits, an RBI double by Luke Duermit and an RBI single from Andy Bennett. The Tigers followed that up with another 2-out run in the 4th when Ryan Metz's knocked in Brendan Toungate who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Royals responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th to tie the score at 3-3.

The Tigers answered right back in the top of the 5th. Matthew Wolff led off the inning with a double to right centerfield. Trevor Newman was safe on a bunt for hit attempt to put runners at 1st and 3rd with no outs. Wolff scored on a balk, and Newman scored on Duermit's RBI single up the middle.

The Tigers added an important insurance run in the 7th on Toungate's RBI sacrifice fly.

Duermit let the Tigers with a 2-4 effort, including a double and 2 RBI. Bennett also had a 2-hit day with an RBI. Kiel Brenczewski added a double.

Starter Luke Albright (1-0) picked up his first win of the season. Albright threw 6 innings of 4 hit baseball, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 6. Taylor Soper earned his 6th save of the season working a quick 1-2-3 7th inning that included 2 strikeouts.

Jacob Daftari drove in two when he singled in the fourth inning for the Royals. HSE scored three runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to a double by Trenton Schneider and the single by Jacob Daftari.

Grayson Riekhof took the loss for Hamilton Southeastern Royals. He threw two and a third innings, surrendering three runs, four hits, and striking out four. Sam Bachman started the game. He went four innings, allowing three runs, four hits, striking out seven, and walking zero.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they travel Mt. Vernon for a game at 6pm. The Tigers return to HCC play on Thursday when they host the Brownsburg Bulldogs in the first of a 3 game series.



Greyhounds win Invitational

CRAWFORDSVILLE - The Carmel baseball team defeated Crawfordsville 13-5 in the championship game of the Athenian Invitational Saturday at Crawfordsville.

Sophomore Drew Olssen recorded his first victory of the year turning in 3.2 innings of solid relief work.

The Greyhounds were led offensively by senior Parker Massman with 3 hits, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. The Greyhound's record moved to 7 and 0 on the season.

Carmel's next game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday at No. 3 Hamilton Southeastern.



Sheridan sweeps Tri-Central

SHARPSVILLE - The Sheridan baseball team swept a two-game series with Tri-Central Saturday.

Sheridan was at Tri Central.

The Hawks were down 6-2 in game one of the 5th when Brandon Kinkead tied the game with a grand slam. Sheridan won 12-6.

Lane Leonard and Kyle Harwood combined to get the win.

In game two the offense was led by Zach Mannies and Sam Crail.

Mannies was 3-4 at the plate. H scored three runs and he drove in two runs.

Jake O'Hara started game two on the hill and threw four innings. Sam Crail came in relief and got the win.

No score was provided for the second game.
