The Times

Westfield High School senior Laura Moore finished her high school tennis career off this spring and added some impressive items to an already strong resume in the process.

Moore won the Hoosier Crossroads Conference No. 1 singles tournament in early May, received all-conference honors and recently earned all-state second team honors.

Now she can add 2017 Times of Noblesville Hamilton County Player of the Year to her list.

As Westfield head coach Trudy Coler explained, Moore also leaves Westfield with the most wins in school history.

"I think Laura Moore would be an excellent choice as a top county performer," Coler said. "In addition to having an outstanding season and winning conference, she also now holds the school record for girls tennis for career wins at 58-18."

Moore completed her senior season with a 17-4 record. This fall she'll be playing tennis collegiately for Indiana Wesleyan.

The Times has also named Hamilton Southeastern head coach Kirk Webber as its 2017 Hamilton County Coach of the Year. Webber led the Royals to a 10-6 mark, a Fishers Sectional championship and an appearance in the North Central Regional Final.

Other Top Players:

Moore beat out a number of strong players to earn the top honor in the county:

Ashley Spirrison, Hamilton Southeastern, Jr. - With still one year remaining in her high school career, Spirrison will be one of the favorites to win the player of the year award in the county next spring. Spirrison put together a great junior year campaign. She finished 11-8 overall and went undefeated in regular season conference play. She entered the HCC No. 1 singles tournament as the top seed before falling to Moore in the championship match in three sets. Like Moore, Spirrison also received IHSTECA 2017 All-State honors (second team).

Webber had nothing but good things to say about his star player.

"Ashley is a very tough player who works hard, never gives up, and is mentally strong," Webber said. "She is a great defender and can also attack when she needs to. She makes her opponents work for everything they get. She plays some of the best singles players in the state match after match, and she always stays positive and keeps fighting."

Reiley Harrington, Guerin Catholic, Sr. - In her final high school season, Harrington, Guerin's top singles player, led the Golden Eagles to a 10-5 team record and an appearance in the Carmel Sectional Final. Individually, Harrington finished the year at 12-6. She also earned all-state honorable mention honors.

Lauren Lemonds, Carmel, Jr. - Lauren Lemonds put the finishing touches on a perfect season over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon at Park Tudor, Lemonds defeated Makenzie Myers from Evansville Memorial in order to win an individual state championship in the singles tournament. This victory came only one week after Lemonds led the Greyhounds (19-0) to the team state championship - the school's fourth title in the last five years. She finished the year with a perfect 25-0 record and, of course, earned all-state first team honors. Lemonds' dominance was undeniable all season long, and it's hard to picture a player having a better year.

Kiersten Carlson, Carmel, Jr. - Lauren Lemonds was outstanding in 2017, but she was only one half of Carmel's dynamic duo of junior leaders. Kiersten Carlson at the Greyhound No. 2 singles spot was almost just as dominant. Carlson finished with a near perfect 18-1 record and was a big part of the team's run to a state championship. Carlson also received first team all-state honors.

Sarah Clark, Noblesville, Fr. - In her first year with the squad, Clark led the way for the Millers finishing with the team's only winning record (12-6). Clark placed fifth in the HCC No. 2 singles tournament and certainly has a bright future ahead of her at Noblesville.
