The Indianapolis Colts are partnering with Carmel High School and various youth sports organizations to put on the second annual Mascot versus Peewees football game on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carmel High School football stadium.
We reached out to a few high schools last year when we were looking for a location and the timing and space needs ended up working best at Carmel," said Stephanie Pemberton, a member of the Colts marketing team. "After a very successful event last year we decided to bring it back to Carmel for a second year.
Proceeds from ticket sales go toward the Make a Wish Foundation and the Indianapolis Colts Foundation. Four peewee football teams will be competing at the event, one per quarter.
The first quarter match up will be the Carmel Dad's Club against mascots. The second quarter will be played by the Westfield Youth Sports Shamrocks, the third quarter, the Avon Junior Athletic Association, and the final quarter, the Zionsville Youth Football League.
The junior Colts cheerleaders will take care of the halftime show.
"We've done mascot vs peewees for our halftime shows and they're always a fan favorite," said Pemberton, "so our mascot coordinator came up the idea of expanding and doing a full length game with other NFL mascots and using the proceeds to benefit a local charity."
Each participating team is competing against the others for ticket sales. The team that sells the most tickets to the game will receive a $1,000 grant to support its youth league.
Doors will open at 4 p.m. with a mascot autograph session and access to the Colts PLAY 60 Zone and traveling museum. Pre-game activities will begin at 6 p.m. with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Last year was the event's inaugural year. Carmel was contacted by the Indianapolis Colts in regard to hosting the event.
"The colts did a first class job," said Jack Berry, president of the Carmel Dad's Club. "The mascots were all very entertaining and blue, the colt's mascot was awesome. It was a very enjoyable night. Our kids and their families all had so much fun they wanted to do it again."
Mascots planned to be in attendance this year include: the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans.
Tickets are available at the door for $7. Children two and under are free. Concessions are provided by the Carmel Dad's Club.
