7/12/2017 4:17:00 PM ADIDAS Showcase comes to Indy
Teams from 17 states and two Canadian provinces will travel to Hamilton and Marion counties to participate in the Adidas Showcase. States represented in the showcase: Arizona, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Connecticut, New York, Michigan, West Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
The three July evaluation periods for high school basketball have officially begun. The first period began Wednesday at 5 p.m. The three periods, July 12-16, July 19-23, and July 26-30 give college coaches a final shot at watching the next recruit class in action.
College coaches will have the opportunity to scout new talent at the Adidas Showcase. Showcase games will be played at Warren Central High School, Noblesville High School, Carmel High School, Grand Park's Jonathan Byrd Fieldhouse, and the Best Choice Fieldhouse in Fishers.
Over 200 teams will travel from all over the country and Canada to participate in the NCAA certified event. Teams range from 14U all the way up to 17U. The 17U and 16U groups are split into Division I and Division II.
The 17U Division I competition will feature 75 teams, the most out of any age group. 17U Division II will have just 7 teams competing, 16U Division I holds 60 teams, 16U Division II just nine. The 15U grouping consists of 12 teams and the youngest group, 14U will hold 43 teams, making a grand total of 206 competing teams.
Teams from as far as Arizona, Texas, New York, and Alabama will be making their way to Indianapolis this week, as well as 12 teams from Canada.
While a majority of the Adidas teams from around the nation will be in Indy for the next couple of days, the nation's top teams will compete at the Adidas Gauntlet in South Carolina.
Games for the 17U and 16U games began on Wednesday and will continue through the weekend, while the rest of the pools will begin play on Thursday.
Among the 206 teams are 31 teams from Indiana. The projected top Hoosier teams are former Pacer George Hill's George Hill Rising Stars, Pocket City Basketball, Indiana Elite Side, and Indiana Elite Central. These teams are scheduled to play their first game on Thursday.
Each team will face two opponents on Thursday in the first round of play. George Hill's Rising Stars will compete at Warren Central High School against IE Side 2018 and OBC Classic Impressions.
Pocket City Basketball's match ups will also be at Warren Central against ALL OUT and Shining Star Price. Indiana Elite Central's schedule includes run in's with the Michigan Goonies Williams and Team Focus 2018-Kerner.
The Adidas Showcase will feature coaches and scouts from colleges from Division I schools, all the way to NAIA schools. The coaches will be able to evaluate 2018 prospects as well as identify younger talent.
