The National Interscholastic Coaches Association (NISCA) has released the Swimming and Diving All-American lists for the 2016-2017 season.
Hamilton County had athletes on 20 of the 24 event lists. Carmel junior Drew Kibler took home All-American honors in four events and had the top time in the nation in two of them, the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 43.20 and 1:33.30 respectively.
Kibler is committed to swim at Texas after graduating next year.
Sammie Burchill also had a strong showing on the list for the Greyhounds, taking home two individual All-American honors and two team honors. Burchill led the nation in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.67, more than a second faster than the runner-up. Burchill is committed to swim at Georgia this upcoming season.
In order for an athlete to be recognized as an All-American, he/she must achieve the qualifying time for the event that is set at the beginning of the season or be one of the top 100 in the nation in said event. Qualifying times must be met at a high school meet. Club times do not count.
Hamilton County was also well represented on the All-Academic lists with nine boys and eight girls making the cut. Hamilton Southeastern's girls swimming and diving team also received the Gold Team Scholar Award with a team average GPA of 3.758.
