The Age Group Long Course State Championships put on by Indiana Swimming are happening this weekend at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The three day event is one of four championships being held by Indiana Swimming this summer.

The ages in the competition range from 10 and under up to 14 years old. Competition began on July 28, with swimmers from the Fast Tigers Club out of Fishers doing well.

Meghan Christman, 12, from the Fast Tigers took first place in the girls' 11-12 100 meter freestyle prelim race with a time of 1:00.77, two seconds faster than the second place finisher, Nalanie Cortez out of Olympia.

Madelyn Christman also claimed the top spot in the 13-14 age range for the 100 meter freestyle, finishing in 1:02.93 for the Fast Tigers.

Twelve year old Jo Jo Ramey claimed the Fast Tigers' third top finish competing in the 11-12 age girls 200 meter backstroke.

Molly Robinson, 12, had an impressive go in the 100 meter backstroke, taking first place in the preliminary race. She finished more than three seconds before the second placer Rachel Dildine of Dune, Ind. Robinson's time was 1:20.24.

Charlie Ramey finished second in the 800 meter freestyle race in the girl's 13-14 group, with fellow Tiger Kyli Terpening right behind her in third place.

On the boy's side, Daniel Bennett, age 12, finished second in the 50 meter butterfly race on the first day of competition. He finished the 50 meters in 31.39 seconds, only trailing Gannon Crosser, who took the first place role with a time of 30.62 seconds.

Bennett added a first place finish to his day in his second race, the 100 meter breaststroke.

Porfi Vasquez, Fishers, came in third in the 200 meter butterfly with a time of 2:25.10.

Anthony Riles rounded out Fishers' individual victories with a first place finish in the 13-14 age group 1500 meter freestyle race.

Along with the individual accomplishments, the Fast Tigers' relay teams put together some strong showings in the first round of races as well.

The Fast Tigers girls' 13-14 400 meter medley relay team came in third place in the preliminary round with a time of 4:43.18. Relay members were: Madelyn Christman, 14; Lydia Reade, 13; Alexandra Stein, 14; and Charlie Ramey, 14.

The boys relay team in the same event finished fourth. Kyle Ponsler, 13; Alex Garcia, 13; Reed Beaumont, 13; and Jackson Carlile, 14 finished with a time of 4:31.56, just two seconds even behind the first place finishers from Dune, Ind.

Results from the second and third sessions of races on July 28 were not available by the Times' deadline.

The Age Group Championships continue through Sunday July 30. The next round of Indiana Swimming competition comes in the form of the Divisional Summer Championships Aug. 5 and 6. Those races will be held in Concord, Crawfordsville, and Franklin.

Noblesville will play host to the third of the four championship competitions. The Open Water State Championships will be held on Sept. 16 at Morse Reservoir. For information on the Age Group Championships or any of the four events, visit www.teamunify.com.
