Carmel's Mulloy is Butler's first recruit for 2019

Carmel's John Michael Mulloy went to Twitter to announce his commitment to the Butler basketball program, becoming new coach LaVall Jordan's first recruit for the class of 2019.

Mulloy, a 6-9 center/forward heading into his junior season, announced Wednesday night on Twitter that he has committed to the Bulldogs. Jordan has yet to receive a commitment for Butler's 2018 recruiting class, but 2019 now has one entry.

Mulloy has not been ranked on any national major recruiting websites. He held offers from Miami of Ohio, Tulsa and Toledo. He made a recent unofficial visit to Syracuse, took early trips to Indiana, Notre Dame and Xavier, and had interest from Purdue, though he had not been offered a scholarship by any Power Six conference schools until Butler did so on Aug. 28.

On Twitter, Mulloy thanked the colleges that recruited him and Carmel community for supporting him.

As a sophomore, the left-handed big man averaged 9.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, shooting 82 percent on free throws. Carmel finished 22-5 and ended their season with overtime loss 52-49 to Fort Wayne North in the regional game.

Mulloy also played for the Indy Spice this summer at Peach Jam this summer and averaged 12.4 points and 10.6 rebounds in his five games. He shot 79 percent on free throws and made three of his four three point attempts.
