Fishers competed along with HCC opponent Westfield at this weekend's Flashrock Invitational. Fishers had a tight pack of runners crossing the finish line one after the other and placing second overall out of 16 teams with only Hinsdale, Illinois out racing the Tigers.
First to cross the finish line was Debbie Shera with another impressive race. She placed 9th overall in 19:07. The next five runners were all within 10 spots of each other, which is what made the difference in a successful race. Abby Carter led the pack of five placing 20th followed by Tessa Kraft (22nd), Kamya Lapsley (25th), Miya Wai (26th), and Brynn Urban (30th) and another PR 20:05. Rounding out the top seven was Elinor Carmona finishing 36th with a new PR time of 20:13.
In the JV race the Tigers held on strong for another second place team finish. Leading Fishers in the JV race was Erin Johnson who was second overall in the race. The Tigers had three others in the top 20 as Johnson, freshman Georgia Horn (5th), freshman Katie Pfeifer (9th), and Abby Celentano (12th). Freshman Mia Yates was the final scorer for Fishers placing 23rd overall for the Tigers. Others receiving ribbons for placing in the top 40 were Ellie Gaffin (32nd), Sawyer Osmun (33rd), Charis Greiwe (34th), and Haley Jordan (40th).
The Westfield boys cross country team finished a strong fourth in the Championship Race. The Shamrocks were led by a fine 7th place finish from Nick Leahy. Outstanding races were also turned in by Samuel Novak, James McClure, and Max Gutwein. They were joined in the scoring by Noah Douthit, and Duncan McGraw, Mahamat Djour, and Tyler Smith also had strong races.
The JV boys finished second behind great races from Joe Barnett and Kyler Koning who finished 3rd and 4th in the race. Emerson Bostic, Robby Bogdajewicz, and Nik Pensyl rounded out the scoring. Clay Kipper, Billy Slover, Alex LeFevre, and Hadyn Hudnall also had outstanding races.
The Shamrocks are back in action Saturday, September 23, in the Golden Bear Invite in Shelbyville.
