Sheridan Dominates Taylor
Christopher DeHarde

After a small shootout that lasted much of the first quarter, the Sheridan Blackhawks then put the gas pedal down and steamrolled their conference rival, the Taylor Titans with a score of 64-13 Friday night on the road, keeping their top spot in the Hoosier Heartland Conference (5-0).

Sheridan's opening drive was highlighted by a 40-yard Drake Delph pass to Brody Perry that set up a two yard run by Joe Callahan, and with the extra point Sheridan had a 7-0 lead with 10:01 left in the first quarter.

After a turnover by each team, Taylor would be able to even the score after a 45 yard pass by Clay Brubaker to Peyton Johnson made the score 7-7 with 3:48 left in the first quarter.

Callahan would add to his rushing total by scoring another touchdown with a one yard run, and a badly handled snap meant that the score would remain 13-7 with 2:06 left in the first quarter.

An Ange Gnamkey interception gave Sheridan the ball again and Callahan would get another touchdown run before the end of the first quarter as he took the ball 22 yards to the end zone. The score was 20-7 with 14 seconds left in the first quarter.

Gnamkey would start the second quarter with an interception off of a Taylor halfback option pass and No. 13 would score on the very next play as a 35 yard pass to Gnamkey made the score 27-7 with 11:42 remaining in the first half.

Callahan scored his fourth touchdown of the night with a six yard run and with the extra point Sheridan made the score 34-7 with 9:49 left in the first half.

Gunnar Williams would bring Sheridan another touchdown with a 19 yard run, and the score would go to 41-7 with 6:32 left in the first half.

Callahan would add another touchdown to his first half performance after a four yard run. The score would be 48-7 after the extra point with 4:10 left in the first half.

A bobbled snap led to a safety with 3:03 left in the first half, and it would give Sheridan two more points and a 50-7 lead.

Perry would add to the Sheridan lead by catching a 12 yard touchdown pass and the extra point made the score 57-7 which would be the score as the teams went to halftime.

The third quarter sailed by quickly with only one pass attempt and neither team scoring. However, the fourth quarter was a little bit more action-packed.

Taylor was able to add to its point total as Jaylen Harris ran a fumbled snap back 87 yards for a touchdown. The extra point bounced off of the goal post as the score was 57-13 with 7:50 left in the third quarter.

Sheridan would score again as Cameron Hovey ran the ball 26 yards and the extra point set a Sheridan scoring record for the season as the Blackhawks would get to 64-13. The game would end without another offensive snap as Sheridan would go to 5-1 overall, 5-0 in conference.

Sheridan's next game is Friday September 29th against the Tipton Blue Devils at Tipton High School. Kickoff is at 7:30.
