Westfield falls flat against Brownsburg

The Shamrocks struggled to find any consistency on either side of the ball in their conference match up against the Brownsburg Bulldogs at home this Friday as the Rocks were beaten 41-7 on Homecoming night.

The Rocks started the game with a three and out, and it was all Brownsburg from there. The Bulldogs scored on their first possession of the game, after Westfield's defense held them for three downs at the one yard line.

The Bulldogs went for it on fourth down, converting the one yard shortage into a touchdown. The second score for the Bulldogs came in the same fashion, as they pushed through the Rocks defense on a fourth and one.

Westfield gave Brownsburg three extra shots on field goals, being called for three penalties on Brownsburg extra point tries.

The Rocks have struggled offensively since losing senior running back Nate Froelich to a season-ending neck injury in last week's loss to Hamilton Southeastern.

Westfield was down 27-0 at the end of the first half.

Westfield recovered a bad Brownsburg snap at the 14 yard line, after a failed onside kick, giving the Rocks and extra possession early on in the third.

The Rocks made it to fourth down with two yards to go, but couldn't convert.

It looked like the Rocks' fate might change in half two, as junior Jeremiah Edwards blocked a Brownsburg punt and ran it back for Westfield's first and only score of the night midway through the third.

The Rocks couldn't find much consistency though, and the Bulldogs found holes in the home team's defense a few more times and came away with the conference W.

The Rocks rushing game was led by junior Dorian Henson with two runs and 20 yards. Senior Matthew Meyer had three runs for 19 yards. The Rocks finished with 65 total rushing yards.

Senior quarterback Cameron Nance completed 10 of 19 for 61 yards. Henson also led the team in receiving yards catching two balls for 20 yards. Westfield finished with 72 receiving yards.

The Shamrocks play again next Friday on the road at Avon at 7 p.m.
