CICERO - A few bolts of lightning, along with a steady early evening rainfall might have delayed the football game between host Hamilton Heights and visiting Noblesville Millers Friday. However, it did not slow the Millers in their quest for their first victory of the season.

Noblesville struck early and often behind the arm and legs of junior quarterback Grant Gremel Friday in a 45-0 victory over the Huskies. The triumph moved the Millers to 1-5 overall, while Hamilton Heights dropped to 1-5 with the loss.

Gremel put the Millers on the scoreboard less than a minute into the game with a 61-yard touchdown run with 11:24 to play in the first quarter. He found an initial hole up the middle then broke it outside and scampered untouched for the score. Senior Jack Knight tacked on the extra point.

Noblesville regained possession after a three-and-out, led by early tackles by junior defensive lineman Dalton Davis.

Noblesville went to the air their second series, and the Millers made it 14-0 when Gremel connected with sophomore wide receiver Jayden Barrett on a 33-yard touchdown strike.

"He is a special player," second-year Noblesville coach Jason Simmons said of Gremel. "He can be dangerous with his arm and his legs, and he embodies what we are looking for in a leader."

Gremel's second score of the game on the ground came at the 10:26 mark in the second quarter. Facing third down-and-18, Gremel snuck around the right side and ran 43 yards for the score, making it 21-0.

"We knew coming in we'd have to play the perfect game to compete against a great team like Noblesville," Hamilton Heights coach Mitch Street said. "They just had some big plays that set the tone early, but I will say, our guys never gave up, and they kept fighting."

Gremel finished the game with 147 yards rushing on six carries. Through the air, he completed 12 passes on 22 attempts for 169 yards. He threw for two touchdown passes and ran for two more.

Noblesville's Zach Gruver was the recipient of Gremel's second touchdown pass - a 32-yarder, in which Gruver got behind Heights defenders and caught in stride at the 10-yard line and coasted into the end zone with 8:45 to play in the third quarter.

Hamilton Heights junior kick returner Tad Defoe was bright spot for the Huskies. He nearly broke two kickoff returns for touchdowns.

"We put a new return play in there," Street said. "It was good to see those two plays work. We did some good things tonight."

The other good thing was an acrobatic interception by junior defensive back Corbin Lawson.

"He is a young guy who went out there and made a nice play," Street added.

Heights will try to get back on the winning track next week against Hoosier Conference foe Twin Lakes. Noblesville will try to put back-to-back victories together when it takes on Hamilton Southeastern in Hoosier Crossroads Conference action.
