10/12/2017 9:21:00 PM Royals eliminate Tigers in first round of volleyball sectionals
The No. 9 Lady Royals, who were 24-8 in the regular season, defeated Mudsock rival Fishers on Thursday in the first round of sectional play after winning 17 of their final 18 matches of the regular season.
The Tigers took the Royals to five sets, but fell short of the victory 22-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-9, 13-15, allowing the Royals to do something the Tigers did back in September when the Tigers beat HSE in five sets for the Mudsock trophy.
"Very proud of this group and how they have matured over the season. Seniors have taken on a more vocal role and have been the leaders of this group,' Royals Coach Jason Young said.
The Lady Royals will meet the Carmel-Noblesville winner in Round 2 at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
This sectional win comes at the end of a very successful season for the Royals.
The Lady Royals also defeated previously unbeaten No. 1, and nationally-ranked Zionsville 3-1 in HCC competition during HSE Seniors Night on Sept. 21. In addition to Zionsville and Fishers, other high-ranked teams on HSE's schedule included current No. 1 Yorktown. No. 3 Avon, No. 10 New Castle, Providence and McCutcheon.
