11/14/2017 10:47:00 PM Hamilton Heights rolls past Guerin Catholic
Hamilton Heights dominated the paint Tuesday night in their 68-27 victory over Guerin Catholic. The Huskies took the lead early and never gave it up.
A combination of Kayla Kirtley, Ana Collar, and Lexi Branham fueled the Husky offense, while offensive rebounds game them multiple extra possessions.
Guerin struggled with turnovers, and was scoreless for the better part of the first quarter until a Sarah Holba field goal put the Golden Eagles on the board with just over two minutes to play in the first quarter.
Heights had a double digit lead at the end of the first, 14-4. Guerin started the second quarter with a three point basket, but continued to give up offensive rebounds and extra possessions off turnovers to the Huskies.
Kirtley and Collar continued their offensive run and Heights was up by 22 at the half, 30-8. Nicole Cunninghan led the Golden Eagles through the first half.
Some drives to the basket and a couple of three pointers provided a bit of a spark for Guerin Catholic in the second half, but the Golden Eagles continued to struggle to contain the Husky offense, as Heights' lead grew to 34 by the end of the third, 46-12.
Guerin put together a run and had their best offensive quarter in the fourth, scoring 15, but it wasn't enough to make the comeback. Hamilton Heights ended night with the 68-27 victory.
Guerin, now 0-4, will play again on Saturday at home against Heritage Christian. Tip-off is set for 2:20 p.m.
Hamilton Heights, 1-3, will travel to Fort Wayne Snider on Saturday for a two-game tournament starting at 11 a.m.
