The Greyhounds should be in great shape offensively because of their veteran leadership this coming season.

While the defense has more experience than the offense, the Greyhounds do return one of the top quarterbacks in the state in senior Jake McDonald. The 6-foot McDonald completed 67 percent of his passes as a junior for 2,390 yards and 31 touchdowns (nine interceptions).

Four NHS volleyballers going D1
Four of Noblesville High School volleyball's nine seniors have committed to play Division 1 sports next fall. Maddie Hine has signed to play volleyball at the University of Iowa, Stephanie Meysembourg will play at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, Brenna Everingham is committed to the University of Tennessee, and multi-sport athlete Emily Kiser has signed with the University of Michigan. Kiser, a varsity volleyball player for the Millers has signed to continue her basketball career with the Wolverines. The girls kick off their final high school season Aug. 15 against North Central High School.

Tuesday's battle was the first varsity match for four out of five University golfers, all of whom played solid rounds. The 2016 state football champions have been invited to play at Lucas Oil Stadium.The Rocks are not the only Hamilton County School to play on a professional field this season. The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles released information on their boys and girls soccer teams' scheduled matches at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis' Carroll Stadium, home of the Indy 11 professional soccer team.

Westfield's continues strong golf season
The Westfield and Carmel girls golf teams competed on Thursday at the Crooked Stick Country Club in Carmel. Westfield tied Zionsville for first place in the invitational with a team score of 325. This win marked the fourth first place finish for the Shamrocks out of five tries. The Shamrocks were led by Jocelyn Bruch who was one of only 5 players that broke 80 on the day.

Grand Park announces partnership with Methodist Sports Medicine
Grand Park has announced that Methodist Sports Medicine will become the official sports medicine provider for the campus that attracted nearly 2 million visits last year.

As part of the new partnership, all sporting events at Grand Park will be staffed by medical personnel from Methodist Sports Medicine, including athletic trainers and orthopedic physicians.

Westfield's Bruch breaks course record in Shamrocks win
The Westfield Lady Golf team kicked off their season in a big way on Monday morning at the Bloomington Country Club.

Sophomore sensation Jocelyn Bruch played one of the best rounds in the history of high school golf. Bruch broke the women's course record at Bloomington Country Club by posting a 62, which was an impressive 11 under par.

Guerin's Gallagher is national champion
On the first day of competition at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in Kansas City, Guerin Catholic's Quinn Gallagher became a national champion. Gallagher, running for the Northside Saints Track Club, finished first in the Boys 2000 steeplechase in the 15-16 division with a time of 6:21.49. That's more than six seconds faster than the second place runner, Anthony Tirado of Lancaster City.

Soccer National champions crowned at Grand Park
The US Soccer National Cup XVI Finals came to a close from Grand Park on Monday. A total of 21 teams, 10 male and 11 female, took home a national title. Teams from age groups ranging from 13U up to 18/19U competed in two groups: the premier group and the super group. Champions from each group and each age range were crowned national champions.

Last week Indiana Runner released a partial list of its top 50 girls cross country teams for the upcoming season. The list contained the teams ranked 21-50. Earlier this week, ten more top teams were released. Guerin was on the first release at number 31. This week Westfield was named as one of the 11-21 ranked teams.

National finals XVI this weekend at Grand Park
US Club Soccer is returning its 2017 national championship events - 2017 NPL Finals and National Cup XVI Finals - to Grand Park in Westfield.

The 2017 NPL Finals were slated for July 13-17. The NPL finals are the targeted destination for all U-13 through U-18 boys and girls NPL teams throughout the country, as the culminating event of year-long, league-based competition.

Noblesville cheer raises the bar

This season the girls are back at it practicing multiple times a week at White River Elementary. The squad, which consists of varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen teams, is led by head coach Crystal Scott.

Grand Park's USJN Premier Showcase comes to a close
The US Junior National Tournament concluded this weekend with the Dayton Lady Hoopstars of Ohio taking home top honors. The Hoopstars defeated Illinois' Lady Lightning 54-48 to win the 17U tournament championship.

OUT IN THE OPEN- New ATV Helmet Law Takes Effect
If your grandkids take the old 4-wheeler out for a ride on the back 40 without wearing a helmet, you're now breaking the law.

Starting July 1, 2017, a major new law affecting outdoor recreation took effect with barely a whisper in the general media. House Enrolled Act 1200 states that everyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet when operating any off-road-vehicle (ORV).

Champions Crowned at USA Basketball National Tournament
WESTFIELD-- 757 Elite of Virginia (7-1) won the division I boys championship and Florida Future Elite (6-0) won the girls division I championship at the inaugural USA Basketball 14U National Tournament on Monday July 3 at Jonathan Byrd's Fieldhouse at Grand Park.

Royals sweep All-Hamilton County Girls Track and Field awards
Hamilton County once again boasted a number of excellent girls track and field teams this past spring.

County teams occupied four of the top-10 spots in the state finals standings including state runner-up Hamilton Southeastern. Fishers finished in a tie with Zionsville for eighth place, while Noblesville and Carmel tied for tenth.

Westfield sweeps county boys track and field honors
In the end, the paper has named senior Justin Mamaril as our 2017 Hamilton County Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Mamaril had an outstanding senior campaign. Most notably, the senior placed sixth at the state finals in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.95 seconds and was part of a 4x400 relay team that finished ninth in state. Mamaril also won the 300 hurdles sectional title and placed seventh in the regional pole vault with a vault of 13-09.

Power Soccer event showcases world-class athletes with disabilities
WESTFIELD - The United States Power Soccer Association has scheduled the MK Battery Conference Cup Series at the Grand Park Fieldhouse, June 16-18.

The three-day event features 30 teams from across the country. The public is invited to attend all of the tournament events and experience this highly competitive and unique sport. Admission is free.

Rain dampens State Golf Tournament
CARMEL - The IHSAA boy's golf finals, at Prairie View Golf Course, Carmel, were postponed twice due to rain on Tuesday.

The weather allowed Noblesville, who had a 10:33 a.m. tee time, to play only six holes by 4 p.m.

The Millers were joined in competition by Westfield, Carmel, and Fishers, all finishing their first nine by the end of the second delay.

Westfield's Moore all-county top tennis player
Westfield High School senior Laura Moore finished her high school tennis career off this spring and added some impressive items to an already strong resume in the process.

Moore won the Hoosier Crossroads Conference No. 1 singles tournament in early May, received all-conference honors and recently earned all-state second team honors.

Now she can add 2017 Times of Noblesville Hamilton County Player of the Year to her list.

SHERIDAN - The Sheridan Horseshoe league held The First Annual Gregory and Appel Insurance tournament this week. Mitchel Dwigans of Westfield, won with a score of 616. Genia Stepp, of Sheridan, took second with a score of 593 and Charlene Brown of Tipton brought home third with a score of 571.

Noblesville and Carmel win sectional titles
Both the Noblesville Miller and Carmel Greyhound golf teams produced strong showings in their respective sectional tournaments on Monday morning.

The Millers hosted and won their sectional held at Purgatory Golf Club by a wide margin. Noblesville finished with a team-low score of 288 and also boasted the two top individual scores.

Fishers' season ends just short of the final four
LAFAYETTE - The Fishers Tigers baseball came oh so close to reaching the semi-state round of the IHSAA Class 4A Baseball State Tournament.

In the end, No. 3 Fishers (27-6) fell to Zionsville (22-11) 4-3 on Saturday night in the Lafayette Jefferson Regional Final.

HSE finishes as State runner-up, Royals and Millers bring home state titles
The Hamilton Southeastern girls track and field team gave Warren Central a run for its money but, in the end, came up a little short.

HSE finished second in the girls track and field state finals on Saturday with 46 points to Warren Central (55 points) who has now won back-to-back state championships.

Greyhounds are State Champs again
BLOOMINGTON - The Carmel Greyhounds are state champions once again. It's a full on dynasty at this point as Carmel has now won three consecutive state titles.

The Greyhounds ran away from the field on Friday night at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex at Indiana University, finishing with 69 points. Runner-up Avon trailed by a considerable margin finishing with 47 points.

WESTFIELD - The Noblesville Miller baseball team ran into a juggernaut on Monday morning.

The Millers (18-13) lost to the top-ranked team in the state, rival Carmel (23-3), 16-0 in the semifinal of Sectional No. 8 at Westfield High School.

Heights' historic season is ended by Delta walk-off
YORKTOWN - The Hamilton Heights baseball team's record-setting season came to a heartbreaking end on Memorial Day.

The Huskies (21-4) came into their Class 3A Yorktown Sectional semifinal matchup with Delta (13-16) as heavy favorites but lost 3-2 thanks to a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning.

WESTFIELD - The Westfield Shamrock baseball team (11-15) hung with No. 3 Fishers (26-5) early, but the highly-ranked Tigers eventually pulled away.

The Rocks fell to Fishers 6-1 on Monday afternoon in the second semifinal of Sectional No. 8 held at Westfield High School.

University gets past Sheridan, falls in sectional final
The University Trailblazer baseball team (15-13) made a run at the Class 1A Sheridan sectional title over the weekend.

University started by defeating tournament host Sheridan (9-9) 6-2 on Saturday morning before losing 5-1 in the sectional title game to Indianapolis Lutheran (16-7).

LAFAYETTE - Hamilton County schools took five of the top seven spots at the IHSAA Lafayette Jeff Boys Track Regional Thursday, led by Regional champion Carmel.

The Greyhounds were the only team to score more than 100 points at the meet. Carmel posted 114 points, to outdistance second-place Avon, 98.

Golden Eagles are regional champs
GREENCASTLE - Guerin Catholic had to come-from-behind and then hold on to a two possession lead in the final minute of the IHSAA Class 3A regional championship game Saturday night to bring home the title.

Guerin Catholic (20-8) survived a scare from Tri-West (21-5), holding on for a 52-46 win. The game saw 13 lead changes and five ties.

"It was a back-and-forth game," Guerin Catholic senior Matt Holba said.

Golden Eagles advance to tonight's regional final
GREENCASTLE - Guerin Catholic advanced to the regional championship game tonight at 8 p.m. with a 59-45 win over Lebanon today.

The Golden Eagles (19-8) controlled the pace of the game from the first quarter. The Tigers (9-16) opened the second half with a 8-0 run, but the Golden Eagles responded with a run of their own, closing out the third quarter on an 11-1 run.

Nob City a golfers' town this weekend
A field of 132 lady golfers will converge in Noblesville this weekend for the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.

Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville will be on display for the next six days as the field gets trimmed until a champion is crowned Thursday in the 18 hole Championship round. This marks the first USGA championship conducted at Harbour Trees.

Millers can't overlook the Huskies
The most dangerous opponent in sports in the one you overlook.

That statement seems obvious. Think about how often in college football the big school gets beat the small school. It doesn't happen every time, but when a team is looking ahead to their next opponent instead of the team in front of them funny things can happen.
