Radka Caviness
Jan. 2, 1939 - July 8, 2017

Radka Caviness, 78, completed her journey of life peacefully at home July 8, 2017.

She was born Jan. 2, 1939, in war-torn Macedonia to Dusan and Luba Dimitrovich, who preceded her in death.

She immigrated to America in April of 1940 with her mother and older sister Olga, reuniting with Dusan in Oregon. She became a citizen of the United States in her fondly-remembered Pacific Northwest. While in college at Portland State, she met the love of her life, Jim Caviness, who later became her husband. He preceded her in death in June 2014. Their 58-year journey together took them to Ithaca N.Y., Walla Walla Wa., San Diego Calif., Columbus, Ga., and Noblesville.

She devoted herself to her husband and children with a love unrivaled even in great literature. Inspired by her beloved Popcha and Grandpa, she instilled a strong belief in tolerance, compassion, and equality in her children. She was a constant wellspring of optimism and love, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children, Alys (Cris), Jim (Andrea), Phil (Gilda); grandchildren, Aly Caviness, John Caviness, Jimmy Caviness, Phillip Caviness and Charlotte Caviness; and by her younger sister, Ana Worley of Oregon.

A private celebration of life will take place later this month.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests a donation in her name to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, Equal Rights Advocates, or similar charity.

The family has entrusted cremation to Randall & Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville. Condolences: www.randallroberts.com
