Billy B. Hobbs
Aug. 18, 1935 - Nov. 8, 2017

Billy B. Hobbs, 82, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at his home following a battle with heart disease.

He was born Aug. 18, 1935, in Dryden, Va., to Rando and Laura (Mullins) Hobbs.

He retired in 1994 from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis after 30 years of employment. He was a member of the Lapel Volunteer Fire Department, a former member of the Lapel Lions Club, and participated in several bowling leagues. He was a woodcraftsman and had made several sets of cabinets, grandfather clocks and many other fine pieces.

The Hillbilly's last meal was beans and cornbread.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Lavonne (Brantlinger); two daughters, Debbie (Bill) Jarvis, and Penny (Jim) Hormell both of Lapel; four grandchildren, Aaron Jarvis, Barbara Myrick, Billy Jarvis, and Ronnie Jarvis; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Glenda Hobbs; three brothers, Virgil (Carol) Hobbs, Jerry (Mary) Hobbs, and Charles (Janie) Hobbs; a sister-in-law, Janet Hobbs; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Becky Orbik; three grandchildren, Darrell Jarvis, Dana Jarvis, and Donnie Jarvis; two brothers, Ralph and Gail Hobbs; and a sister, Lou Ann Hobbs.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main St., Lapel, with Revs Richard Cole and Glenn Knepp officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lapel Food Pantry, P. O. Box 626, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0626 or the charity of the donor's choice.
