INDIANAPOLIS – The Second Annual Riley Oberhart Memorial Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 25, at the Niedhammer Events Center.

The event is centered on the card game “Magic: The Gathering,” and is accepting players of all ages.

The entry fee is $30 and all proceeds will go to the Riley Oberhart Foundation, which benefits families that fall victim to automobile tragedy.

Participants may pre-register online, and can pay online or at the door.

Riley and his family, of Noblesville, were traveling home from his sister’s birthday celebration when they were struck head on by a driver fleeing police. Riley and his father, Dan, passed due to injuries from the crash. Authorities later said Riley saved the life of his younger sister, Macy, by shielding her from the impact.

Riley was an avid player of “Magic: The Gathering.”

Riley Spelman, event coordinator, said starting a memorial charity and holding the tournament was the best way for not only him, but Oberhart’s close friends and family to remember his life.

“With his death, we didn’t realize how much of a pillar in the Magic community he was, and how much that web was embedded in Indiana community in general,” Spelman said. “It’s a great chance to show solidarity and have people come together who don’t normally interact because they were tied to this one person.”
