The University Lady Trailblazers won the school’s first sectional title since 2012 in a 74-55 win over the Bethesda Christian Patriots Saturday at University.

Sophomore Lindsey Syrek scored a team-high 22 points for University, who trailed 15-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Trailblazers fought back in the second behind senior Natalie Nickless, who scored 15 of her 20 points in the first half.

It wasn’t enough to dig Bethesda out of its hole, as University pushed the lead to 71-47 with two minutes remaining and ultimately held on for the Class 1A Sectional 58 Championship.

Junior wingman Lily Snyder finished as the third Trailblazer in double-figure scoring with 16 points. Snyder was named to the All-Sectional Second Team. Syrek and Nickless both earned first-team honors.

Rachel Shafer and Darcy Patterson joined Baker in double-digits for Bethesda with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The game is scheduled to be held at Southwestern High School in Shelbyville.
