Conner Prairie offers visitors free admission Monday with activities focused on the late Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday.

While The Times newspaper won't be published due to the U.S. Postal Service observing the federal holiday marking the birthday of the Civil Rights Movement champion, and Noblesville Schools will be closed, there are still things to do here in Hamilton County.

The Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville invites the community to participate in its annual MLK Day Blood Drive, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Club, 1448 Conner St. The Club is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., for special member fees with its Teen Center open from noon to 6 p.m. The Club's Community Center, 150 N. 17th St., will offer youth open gym from noon to 3 p.m., free to members, $3 for nonmembers. Visit or call (317) 773-4372.

While Conner Prairie Interactive History Park in Fishers is usually closed on Mondays, it will be open with free admission to celebrate the late Baptist minister and activist who was assassinated in 1968, at age 39, in Memphis.

At Conner Prairie, which will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can celebrate the life and achievements of King and honor his vision of what could be achieved through non-violent protests.

This program offers some really awesome theatrical performances, fun family games, like Black History Bingo, plus a chance to write a poem and share with others what you would do to protest an injustice. Three short plays will be on stage, including one about the life of the late Madam Walker. Visit

Also open free on Monday will be the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Indiana Historical Society and Rhythm Discovery Center (live jazz at 11 a.m.). The Indiana State Museum, Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis Zoo and NCAA Hall of Champions offer free admission with each donation of nonperishable food to Gleaners Food Bank.

Also, Hamilton County Sports Complex in Noblesville will have open complex time, from 1 to 4 p.m., with admission $10 for one hour or $25 for three hours; and Goldfish Swim School in Fishers and Carmel will have open swim time from noon to 2 p.m.

Also, if you're traveling National Parks offer a free-admission day.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s official birthday is Jan. 15.
