The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association will present a District Coach of the Year Award to Fishers High School baseball head coach Matthew Cherry. The coaches of his District voted Cherry as their District Coach of the Year following the 2017 season when his team posted a 27-6 record and won the school’s first IHSAA Sectional Championship and Hoosier Crossroads Conference title. This was Cherry’s 11th year of coaching high school baseball.

“Some of the best coaches and baseball programs in the state are in District K, so being selected by my peers as the Coach of the Year last spring is a tremendous honor and very rewarding,” Cherry said in an email. “To be honest, I am blessed with a tremendous coaching staff that works tirelessly, and last spring, we had the most amazing group of young men. Both our staff and our players really made me look good. This award is just as much theirs as it is mine.”

The recognition will be part of the IHSBCA State Baseball Clinic awards banquet. The banquet will also include the recognition of State Coaches of the Year, Victory Club achievement and the induction of five individuals into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame. The banquet will take place Saturday at the Sheraton at the Crossing Hotel in Indianapolis.
