Jasper – The University baseball team advances to the state championship of the Class A tournament by defeating Tecumseh by a final score of 4-1 on Saturday. This marks back to back seasons in which the Trailblazers will be playing for the state title. The team fell just short last season, losing to Daleville in the title game last season.

Tecumseh scored their only run of the game in the first inning off a Spencer Buse single that scored Jalen Oxley. Meanwhile, the Trailblazer offense got on the board in a big way in the third inning by scoring all four of their runs in the frame. Dawson Estep doubled down the right field line to score Ethan Johnson. The next batter Reese Sharp hit another double that would score Estep from second and Ben Ewe from third. Alex Washlock then singled to score Thomas Prince and that was all the scoring that the Trailblazers would need.

Sharp picked up the win on the mound for the Trailblazers. He was a single out away from throwing a complete game as he pitched six and two-thirds innings while allowing five hits, no earned runs and eight strikeouts. Tyler Galyean came in to record the final out of the game.

The win improves the Trailblazers record to 21-10-1 on the season. They will face off against Washington Township on Monday, June 17 at Victory Field for the state championship. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
