SHERIDAN - The Sheridan Public Library is weeding a lot of its reference books and offering them for sale to the public. The sale items include general knowledge encyclopedia sets by World Book, Americana, and Britannica, specialty encyclopedia sets, biographic works, dictionaries, atlases, fact books, science and health works.

The library is selling several hundred items.

Steve Martin, library director, said all of the items are out of date for current informational needs, but contain information that is still quite valid. As an example, he said historic information about the kings and queens of England is still quite valid; it is just the last 20 years that is missing and that is readily available on the internet.

The sale will be in silent auction format and the books can be seen at the library.

The auction begins Oct. 30, and bids will be taken up to closing time Nov.18.

"If you are doing home schooling and need some basic reference books, this is your opportunity to get some real bargains," Martin said.

The Sheridan Public Library is located at 103 West First St., Sheridan. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
